Love for Humanity

Mother Teresa was moved by the (1) sight of the sick and dying on the streets of Kolkata. She (2) founded a home for the dying (3) destitute and named it ‘Nirmal Hriday’, meaning ‘Pure Heart’. She and her (4) fellow nuns brought the dying people off the streets of Kolkata to this home. They were lovingly (5) looked after and cared for. Since then many men, women and children have been taken from the streets and carried to Nirmal Hriday. These unloved and uncared for people get an (6) opportunity to die in an (7) environment of (8) kindness and love. In their last hours they get human and (9) divine love, and can feel they are also children of God. The (10) Missionaries of Charity try to find jobs for those who (11) survive, or send them to homes where they can live happily for some more years in a caring environment.

(12) Regarding (13) commitment to family, Mother Teresa said, “May be in our own family, we have somebody, who is feeling lonely, who is feeling sick, who is feeling (14) worried. Are we there? Are we (15) willing to give (16) until it hurts (17) in order to be with our families, or do we put our (18) interest first? We must (19) remember that love (20) begins at home and we must also remember that future of humanity (21) passes through the family”.

Mother Teresa’s work has been (22) recognised (23) throughout the world and she received a number of (24) awards. These (25) include the Pope John XXIII Peace Prize (1971), the Nehru Prize for Promotion of International Peace & Understanding (1972), the Balzan Prize (1978), the Nobel Peace Prize (1979) and the Bharat Ratna (1980).

Mother Teresa died at the age of 87, on 5 September 1997. The world (26) salutes her for her love and (27) compassion for (28) humanity. She has taught us how to (29) extend our hand towards those who need our love and support (30) irrespective of (31) creed, (32) caste and (33) religion. The picture of Mother Teresa, (34) draped in a white and blue-bordered sari, with a (35) wrinkled face, ever soft eyes and a (36) saintly smile, lives on in our (37) mind.
