A Liar Cow-Boy

Once there lived a young cow-boy in a village. He used to take a herd of cows and sheep to a nearby field for grazing. The field was near a forest. His job was to look after the animals. But he often felt bored while staying alone in the field.

One day, he thought of playing a trick on the villagers. He began to shout, “Wolf! Wolf! A wolf is coming to attack my sheep!” Hearing his cries, the villagers rushed to the field with sticks to save the animals. But they found no wolf there. The cow-boy laughed at them and said that he had made a joke.

A few days later, he repeated the same trick. Again, the villagers came running to help him. But there was no wolf. This time, they became very angry with him and warned him not to tell lies again.

One afternoon, a real wolf came out of the forest and attacked the sheep. The cow-boy became frightened and cried loudly, “Wolf! Wolf! Please come and save my sheep!” But nobody came to help him. The villagers thought that he was telling another lie.

The wolf killed several sheep and injured many others. The cow-boy felt very sorry for his foolish behaviour. He understood that nobody trusted him because he had lied before.

Moral: Nobody believes a liar, even when he tells the truth.
